Essay Competition to Win Five Paid Conference Trip in Linz Austria

The IUA Business School is invited to participate in a Cross-Cultural Dialogue Conference held in Linz, Australia in autumn 2009 (date TBD). Head on the IUA Business School, Dr. Stein Skjorshammer, is member of the conference board.

Related to the conference, five students from the Business school will be invited to attend. Eligible are both bachelor and master students who study at IUA Business School at the time of the conference.

Those who wish to participate should carefully study the following requirement:

  1. Submit a proposed subject and essay abstract to the Business School.
    1. The subject has to be related to “Business and Cross-Cultural Dialogue”.
    2. The essay abstract should be one A4 size page in length, in English, and less than 600 words.
    3. Please include your name, university ID number, contact information such as telephone, email, etc.
    4. The deadline to submit the essay abstract is on April. 6, 2009. Deadline extended for three weeks till April 27, 2009
    5. The students whose abstracts passed the initial screening will be announced publicly by May. 4, 2009
  2. We will invite those who pass the abstract to write a full-length essay on his or her chosen subject.
    1. The essay should be 3-5 pages long, Times New Roman, 12-point and double space.
    2. The deadline to submit the essay is on August. 3, 2009 .
    3. The five winners will be chosen by the faculty members at Business School; announced latest by September. 1, 2009
  3. There will be a workshop to prepare the students for the conference in late September or early October.
  4. Students get a paid trip to participate the Linz conference 09 (travel costs, accommodation including breakfast) and approximately €18 per day of pocket money during the three-day-conference period.

Other general information:

  • Linz is the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2009.
  • The Cross-Cultural Competence Center of the University of Upper Austria and its partners in Estonia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Turkey are invited to contribute into the Linz 09 event.
  • The Conference is called Cross-Cultural Dialogue: Overcoming of Boundaries and Prejudices.
  • International University Audentes is the proud partner of this conference from Estonia.
  • The Conference will be held in Linz for three days, dates to be decided later.
  • The tentative program of the conference:
    • Day 1:
      • Opening Plenary Session
      • Sub-Workshops (one per country) on the development of self-perception and perception of the others (foreign culture)
    • Day 2:
      • Plenary Session: presentation of the workshop in consideration of the communication patterns and other tokens
      • Sub-Workshop on the assessment and cognitions.
    • Day 3:
      • Plenary session: presentation of the approaches of change
      • Closure of the dialogue and conference.

  • Head of the Business School, Stein Skjorshammer was a member a official delegation from the city of Tallinn, visting Groningen, Holland,  March 26-27, led by mayor Edgar Savisaar.

  • Stein Skjorshammer, the Head of Business School was invited to guest lecture at the Mikkeli University of Applied Science and Helsinki School of Economics from the 2nd to the 14th of March. Prof. Skjorshammer will lecture to students of the international program on the topics of Human Resources Management; he will also be lecturing at the Helsinki School of Economics on the topic of “Entrepreneurship in Emerging Markets – Pitfalls and Rewards.

  • John C. Sullivan, the Coordinator of the English language curriculum in the Business School was invited to guest lecture at the Mikkeli University of Applied Science on the 20th and 21st of February. He lectured to the graduate students on the topics of Strategic Management and the development of the Strategic Process.
  • International Expert Team visited IUA last week and gave full accreditation to our Business Administration Bachelor Program

INTERNATIONAL BALTIC SUMMER SCHOOL 2009

Dear students,

We have a pleasure to inform you that we have created a interesting program for our International Summer-school:  “Business between East and West in Baltic perspective“, which will be held on 02.-16.08.2009.

The program could prove to be a good opportunity to the students and who are interested in business environment and economic developments in the Baltic States.

Our Summer University is based on the idea of a mobile university, i.e. the program will be started in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, then it will be moved to Riga, the capital of Latvia; and finally to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. The program will include attending lectures, visiting numerous companies and enjoying local culture.  

The program has been compiled by the leading business universities in Baltic countries: Tallinn School of Economics and Business Administration of TUT; ISM University of Management and Economics; Stockholm School of Economics in Riga.
